Amad Diallo has explained the main reason he has found form at Manchester United this season and it includes a slight dig at former boss Erik ten Hag.

Amad Diallo’s rise at Manchester United has been a long time coming, following his arrival at the club in January 2021.

Loan spells, injuries, and competition for places had previously limited his involvement, but he is now establishing himself as a first-team regular.

The 22-year-old has contributed five goals and seven assists this season and is poised to play a key role under Ruben Amorim moving forward.

Amad sends Ten Hag slight dig

During an interview with SuperSport, the Ivorian was asked to explain the difference between this season and last term for him.

While some would suggest that he has developed his game since then, Amad was clear in his belief that it has all been about getting chances on the pitch.

Erik ten Hag was largely criticised for not using the 22-year-old during his time in charge at Old Trafford and Amad’s response seems to be a slight dig at the Dutchman.

“Yeah, let’s say maybe it’s confidence because now I’m playing a lot of games. Like I am now, I’ve been every time like this but maybe the game time and confidence,” explained Amad.

“But now I’m happy to play more games and I just want to fight for the club, for the team, every time the manager gives me the confidence and gives me the chance to play for this club, I just want to show I can play for this club.

“My dream is achieve a lot of things with this club, that’s why I’m here. I want to fight for this badge and let’s see what the future brings.”

Amad was unfairly treated under Ten Hag

You cannot really blame Amad for taking a slight dig at Ten Hag. He essentially saved the Dutchman’s job last season by scoring the winner in the FA Cup quarter-final against Liverpool, the competition United would go onto win.

Many fans were aware of the talent Amad had and he was consistently being sidelined for the £85 million flop Antony despite consistently underwhelming performances.

Ten Hag’s former coach Benni McCarthy has even admitted that the manager kept trust with Antony because of the large investment in the player, rather than the fact he deserved minutes over Amad.

Amad showed patience that not many other players would have, and is now finally reaping the rewards under Amorim.
