Manchester United attacker Amad Diallo explains his high aims with Sunderland for the rest of the season as the Black Cats push for the play-off promotion spots.

Amad, 20, is making a huge impression at Sunderland and has advanced significantly in his progression during his loan stay in the Championship this season.

Sunderland, who were promoted from League 1 via the playoffs last season, aim to repeat a similar feat in the Championship by the end of this campaign.

Tony Mowbray’s side currently sits 11th in the division and are well in the mix of playoff contention, only seven points off the side occupying 6th place, Millwall.

Speaking to the club website, United’s loanee still has high aims for the club as well as from an individual standpoint.

Speaking about Sunderland, Amad said: “The club has a big history. It was in the Premier League before, and I hope it goes to the Premier League next season. The staff, the club, and the players all have a lot of confidence in me, and I do my best on the pitch to repay the confidence from the club.

“My objective here at the start of the season was to score ten goals,” he revealed. “Now I want to score more goals. But I have another objective: to take this team into the Premier League because I know it will be difficult, but I always tell myself nothing is impossible.”

The Ivorian, who was selected to represent his nation for the first time since 2021 during this international break, knows how physically demanding British football can be after his spell with Rangers in the Scottish Premiership last season.

“I know it’s tough this season,” admitted the winger. “It’s a difficult league. It’s difficult, it’s not easy when you play so many games. Sometimes, you are tired, yeah, but I come here for playing and not for an excuse, though.”

The loan spell in Glasgow was tough for Amad, a learning curve in his young career. Still, his time in the northeast has allowed him to grow, exhibiting his evident natural abilities and becoming a vital component of Tony Mowbray’s offensive side. The fans instantly warmed up to the Ivory Coast international, something that’s never easy for any loanee, and some of his performances have been breathtaking.

“I hope that next year will be a good season for me. Since I’ve been here, I’ve played in all the games, and so I have felt more confident. The manager and all the staff are confident in me, and I think that this will help me a lot for next year,” he told the club.

The game time he has received in the Championship will be valuable if he is to adapt to life in the Premier League – a level he hopes he can reach next season.

As he has shown in his young career so far, no aim is unreachable for the incredibly skilled Red.
