Alejandro Garnacho’s representatives prepared to “knock on door” for new Man United deal
Alejandro Garnacho’s representatives will be prepared to “knock on the door” for a new Manchester United contract this summer, according to reports.
Garnacho, 19, has become a regular starter for United this season following his breakthrough last year.
Last season, Erik ten Hag effectively used the Argentine as an impact substitute. Garnacho started only 11 games across all competitions.
This season, Ten Hag’s increasing confidence in the teenager—partly influenced by Marcus Rashford’s form—has been clear, with Garnacho making 37 starts.
He has delivered a solid second full season, scoring nine goals and providing five assists, and has been rewarded with a call-up to the Argentina squad for their upcoming international fixtures.
It is also the provisional squad for their Copa America campaign this summer, with three players set to be cut. Argentine reporter Hernán Claus has claimed Garnacho will make the final squad.
According to MailOnline, the United winger may well look for a new contract if he features prominently at the 2024 Copa America this summer.
Garnacho signed his first major contract in April last year, committing himself to Old Trafford until June 2028.
However, his status in Erik ten Hag’s team has dramatically risen since then, with Garnacho currently on a run of 37 consecutive starts. No player has made more appearances for the club than his 49 this season.
The report added that if Garnacho can cement a place with Argentina this summer as solidly as he has at United, it would not be surprising if his representatives are “knocking on the door” for improved terms at Old Trafford.
