Alejandro Garnacho receives huge praise from Argentina boss Lionel Scanoli after impressive cameo
Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho has received huge praise from Argentina boss Lionel Scanoli after an impressive cameo this week.
The Copa America winners faced Chile in a World Cup qualifier in the early hours of Friday morning, and Alejandro Garnacho started on the bench.
Argentina were 1-0 up when the United youngster was introduced after 79 minutes, and the game ended up as a 3-0 win for them.
Garnacho made a positive impact, completing nine of 11 attempted passes, having one successful dribble and assisting Paulo Dybala’s goal in the final minutes of the game.
The 20-year-old’s mature performance on the left wing earned him praise from Lionel Scanoli after the match.
“Alejandro [Garnacho] came in and did everything well. (But) we need to take it slowly, calmly, like with the younger players,” Scaloni told La Nacion.
“When we saw that the game was over and (the win) was heading towards our side (we subbed him on), and he did what he did, which was very good.”
Despite a rocky start to the season for United, the Argentine winger now has three goal contributions this season and should have had a fourth if not for a bizarre offside involving Joshua Zirkzee.
Scanoli added: “Today, he [Garnacho] understood everything, he did everything well. He is a player who can bring us a lot.
“He made the right touch when he had to make the right touch and stopped when he had to stop. He is a player who can contribute a lot to us.”
Garnacho will be in contention to play against Columbia on Tuesday before returning to Carrington ahead of the return of Premier League action next weekend.
