“Lacked continuity…” Alejandro Garnacho’s full international debut assessed by Argentinian media
Argentine press have given their verdict on Alejandro Garnacho after the youngster made his first full debut for Argentina during the international break.
Having previously only played as a substitute for his national side, Garnacho was given his first start yesterday as Argentina faced Costa Rica in a friendly.
With Lionel Messi absent and the Manchester United winger in good form, the 19-year-old played 70 minutes in the wet conditions of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

After going 1-0 down, the World Cup champions came back to win the game 3-1, with goals from former United player Angel Di Maria, Liverpool‘s Alexis Mac Allister and Lautaro Martinez, who replaced Garnacho late in the second half.
And, after receiving praise from Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni, the national press have had their say on Garnacho’s performance.
Clarin, the largest newspaper in Argentina, gave the youngster a 6/10, saying: “He was mobile on the left and showed a lot of desire.
“Diving towards the middle to receive when the ball did not reach him, but he did not manage to gravitate like in his last games at Manchester United.
“He showed glimpses of his talent, but he lacked continuity in the game.”
Sports newspaper Ole agreed with this rating, writing: “First time as a starter and left winger.
“He had a clear chance with a left foot that was blocked by Keylor. He lacked the finesse to give the centre or the last pass.”
Finally, popular Argentine sports broadcaster TYC Sports also gave the 19-year-old a 6/10.
They said: “Expeditious every time the ball came to him. He received and faced, although without making appropriate decisions. He is worth the conviction in the first ownership of him.”
After enjoying a breakthrough season at United, it is understandable that some Argentinian fans may not have been impressed.
However, looking at the statistics from the game, it is clear Garnacho produced an impressive performance last night.
With 100% shot accuracy, two chances created and six dribbles won, the winger was a big problem for the Costa Rican defence and his performance will no doubt earn him more opportunities to play for his country in the future.
