Alan Smith heaps praise on “quality” Man Utd star following 4-1 win vs Wolves, him and Bruno Fernandes are brilliant

Former Arsenal forward Alan Smith has spoken very highly of a Manchester United star following the club’s victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Manchester United secured a commanding 1-4 victory on Monday night against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

United started the game strongly and Diogo Dalot had a major chance within ten minutes to put United ahead, but he was denied by Sam Johnstone.

United kept going though and that hard work was eventually rewarded through a scrappy goal from Bruno Fernandes. Wolves then found an equaliser through Jean-Ricner Bellegarde on the stroke of half-time, which ended their five-game drought without a goal.

United came out strongly in the second-half as goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount put United into a comfortable position.

The Reds were then given a penalty following a handball from Yerson Mosquera. Fernandes converted that penalty convincingly to conclude proceedings at the Molineux.

Smith full of praise for Mount

Alan Smith was full of praise for Mason Mount during his impressive performance against Wolves.

“He’s been quality out there, Mason Mount, in most things he has done. They have been much better in the second half, Man United.

“Look at this for a pick out. Mount knows where it’s coming. Cool and calm finish. What a link-up.”

He then later added: “He’s suffered at times in a Man United shirt, been on the treatment table, but he’s shown his quality out there.”

Mount is a manager’s dream

Mason Mount isn’t the most popular player amongst fans, but there’s a reason that every manager he’s worked under has made him an integral part of their plans.

Off the ball, he’s often United’s best player when he’s on the pitch, but against Wolves, he showed how good he can be on the ball. He looked full of confidence and some of his passing was very impressive.

Mount has been plagued by injuries since moving to Old Trafford from Chelsea in 2023, but things finally seem to be looking up. The English midfielder has avoided any major injury problems this season and is clearly seen as a very important player by Ruben Amorim.

Having also scored against Sunderland and Crystal Palace, Mount now has three goals in his last four Premier League starts.

It’s taken a while, but Mount is finally starting to look like the player United paid £60 million for two years ago. And more importantly, he is finally starting to look like a player worthy of wearing the no.7 shirt at Manchester United.
