Alan Shearer slams two “pathetic” Man Utd players vs Everton, one redeemed himself

Alan Shearer was far from impressed with two “pathetic” Manchester United players after their 2-2 draw against Everton on the weekend.
Manchester United escaped Goodison Park with a fortunate point after falling 2-0 behind to Everton in the first half.
Ruben Amorim’s side struggled in the opening 45 minutes and was punished by the in-form Toffees. Beto struck first, followed by a second from Abdoulaye Doucouré before the break.
Bruno Fernandes ignited United’s comeback with a stunning free-kick midway through the second half, before Manuel Ugarte netted his first goal for the club with a well-struck half-volley.
In the final moments, Everton were awarded a penalty, but after a VAR review, the decision was overturned, ensuring the points were shared.
Shearer slams two pathetic United players
United’s defending in the first-half at Goodison Park for both goals was amateur at best and rightly criticised afterwards.
Alan Shearer labelled the defending from the visitors as “pathetic” and highlighted poor play from Portuguese duo Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, especially in the build-up for Doucouré’s second goal.
“Watch Man United, watch this, I mean this is pathetic,” the Premier League’s all-time top scorer said on Match of the Day.
“You’ve got players who are walking. There’s no point in going in ones and twos, look at the space Everton have got to play in. Look at Harrison, look at Garner.
“Both wanting the ball, both wanting to receive the ball. And if they get it, Dalot is eight yards off. Why aren’t you one yard off and if they get it, putting a crunching tackle in?
“Everton’s second goal is the worst one of the lot. Watch this from Bruno Fernandes, when Doucoure gets the ball. Seriously is that the best you can do?
“Take a touch, play in behind and Everton get the goal which they really deserve. So the difference between the two teams and for 72 minutes Man United were hopeless. I look at some of the players and they’re really struggling.”
Fernandes redeemed himself vs Everton
Fernandes did redeem himself after a dreadful opening 45 minutes. The United captain delivered the moment of magic Amorim’s side were crying out for when he found the back of the net with a free-kick.
The 30-year-old was moved deeper into the midfield two after Alejandro Garnacho came on and he provided a positive impact from that position.
Ugarte and Casemiro were struggling to get the ball moving all game long and that is exactly what Fernandes provided.
He also delivered a dangerous free-kick which led to the equaliser, dragging a poor United side to get a good away point against Everton.
But with all of the well-known goalscoring issues Amorim’s side have right now, the one thing they cannot afford to be is lacklustre at the back.
