Alan Shearer has revealed one ‘good sign’ at Manchester United after their win over Chelsea and Ruben Amorim will be delighted about it.
Manchester United have had a mixed start to the new Premier League season, with two wins in their opening five games.
Ruben Amorim’s side secured an important win against Chelsea on the weekend. They also won 3-2 against Burnley earlier in the month.
Otherwise, the Reds suffered defeats against Arsenal and Manchester City while also drawing with Fulham. They were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two side Grimsby Town.
There have certainly been some bumps after a terrible campaign last time out and Amorim remains under pressure heading into an important period of the season.
Shearer reveals ‘good sign’ at United
The victory over Chelsea was crucial and United fought their way over the line after both teams had a man sent off.
Alan Shearer was impressed by the performance from United and believed that it showed that the squad is still fully behind Amorim.
“I thought Man United played well, I think they showed great character because they were under massive pressure,” the Premier League legend said on The Rest Is Football podcast.
“Amorim is under huge pressure and I thought his players did really well for him in the second half. They dug deep and rolled their sleeves up.
“If he wanted to know if they’re still with him or not, I think that gave him the answer and a bit of relief. A great three points for them and they had to work hard for them.
“It was back to the walls stuff and they had to defend and work hard as a team. That was a good sign for the manager I think.”
United will gain confidence from Chelsea win
United could have done better against Chelsea. If Casemiro was not sent off, they might have secured a healthy victory and gained more confidence from it.
But there are also benefits to having to fight through to secure three points, even though that isn’t something that fans want to see happening regularly in the long term.

The upcoming games against Brentford and Sunderland are also must-win games, but there also be an expectation for the performances to improve.
However, when playing against a team like Chelsea, you simply just need to get over the line and United managed to do that, and they should still gain confidence from that.
