Alan Shearer names two Manchester United stars in Premier League TOTW as ‘mastermind’ claim made

Alan Shearer has named two Manchester United players in his Premier League Team of the Week following their win over Liverpool at Anfield.

Manchester United have finally secured back-to-back Premier League victories under Ruben Amorim following their 2-1 triumph over Liverpool at Anfield.

It’s been a mixed start to the season for the Reds in terms of both performances and results, but this latest win lifts them to ninth place; just three points behind Manchester City in second.

However, consistency has been United’s biggest issue over the past year, and this result will only carry real weight if Amorim’s men can build on it with another win.

Their next challenge comes against Brighton at Old Trafford, a fixture that hasn’t been kind to United in recent seasons.

There were several standout performers for United during their memorable victory at Anfield and Harry Maguire was the obvious candidate for the Man of the Match award.

Alan Shearer decided to choose Maguire in his team of the week following on from his match-winner and was very complimentary of the United defender.”

“The big man came up with another big goal in a huge performance,” he wrote. An absolute giant in both boxes.

“Defended superbly to keep Liverpool’s attack at bay and then produced a towering header to seal a memorable win at Anfield.”

Maguire’s winning goal also saw a moment of magic come from Bruno Fernandes, who delivered an incredible first-time volleyed cross into the box to assist his teammate.

The United captain was also included in Shearer’s team of the week, with the pundit writing: “A real captain’s performance. He never stopped working in the middle, and who else would you have expected to supply such an incredible ball for Maguire’s winner?”

While the players on the pitch delivered for United at Anfield, Amorim also deserved a lot of credit for his approach to the game.

Ahead of kick-off, the head coach was receiving criticism for some of his lineup decisions, such as benching Benjamin Šeško and starting Maguire, but they all paid off massively.
