Alan Shearer has named two Manchester United players in his Premier League Team of the Week following the stunning victory over Arsenal.
Manchester United edged out Arsenal 3–2 in an entertaining Premier League encounter at the Emirates Stadium.
The hosts dominated the opening exchanges, with United sitting deep before conceding the opener through an own goal.
United quickly found a response, as Bryan Mbeumo capitalised on a costly Arsenal error to level the score.
The momentum shifted in the visitors’ favour late in the first half and continued after the break, when Patrick Dorgu produced a superb finish to put United ahead.
Arsenal later drew level from a corner, but substitute Matheus Cunha struck in the closing minutes to seal the win.
Shearer names two Man Utd players in Premier League TOTW
Following on from this game-week, United now sit fourth in the table and Alan Shearer has named two of Carrick’s players in his Team of the Week.
The all-time Premier League top scorer included Harry Maguire in the defence. “Again, he really stood up to the challenge against a top-two side,” he wrote.
He also named Mbeumo as one of the players in his frontline after he grabbed United’s equaliser at the Emirates Stadium. “Another energetic display and a great finish. Two goals in two games since AFCON,” added Shearer.
The ex-Newcastle striker’s team also included players like Marc Guehi, Estevao and Ollie Watkins, while Michael Carrick was his Manager of the Week. “Two matches in charge and he’s beaten Man City and now Arsenal. What a start,” concluded Shearer.
‘Immense’ Dorgu misses out on TOTW
While Mbeumo and Maguire certainly deserve to be in the Team of the Week, many would suggest that Dorgu is unfortunate to not get recognition.
The Danish international was superb on the night and earned praise from Carrick after the game for his ‘immense’ display.
“Pat’s been a big player for us, obviously he’s scored two goals but in terms of the threat and athleticism and quality, he’s been immense down the side with Luke against two teams that ask a lot of questions,” Carrick said.
“I am delighted for him because the two goals he’s scored are very different goals. It’s nice to see him smiling and happy.”
Unfortunately for Dorgu, he suffered a hamstring injury in that game as well and reports suggest that he could miss over two months of action.
