Alan Shearer names one Manchester United star in Premier League TOTW for two reasons, “this is why…”

Alan Shearer has named one Manchester United star in his Premier League Team of the Week following on from the latest win over Brighton.

Manchester United seem to have rediscovered their rhythm this season, putting together three straight wins in the Premier League.

After a tough start that saw Ruben Amorim come under early scrutiny, the Reds have started to build real momentum with victories over Sunderland, Liverpool, and Brighton.

The triumph at Anfield earlier this month was a statement result, but following it up with another composed and convincing performance against Brighton may have been even more important for Amorim’s side.

In the past, United have often excelled in the high-profile clashes but failed to sustain that same level against so-called lesser opponents. This time, they maintained their intensity from start to finish.

Next up, United travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest, now under the leadership of newly appointed boss Sean Dyche. The in-form Reds will be eager to extend their winning run and strengthen their push up the Premier League table.

United’s impressive win over Brighton saw several players stand out. Matheus Cunha was given the Player of the Match award after netting his first goal for the club.

But it was Bryan Mbeumo, who scored twice in the second half, who made it into Alan Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week.

He was alongside the likes of Bournemouth’s Junior Kroupi and his former Brentford teammate Michael Kayode after their win over Liverpool.

“This is why Man Utd were so keen to sign him,” Shearer told the Premier League’s official website when explaining his decision to include Mbeumo.

“He was a constant threat against Brighton and produced two composed finishes.”

United have several standout players right now

One of the most positive things about United’s upturn in form is the fact that several players have been standing out.

Amad has produced some great performances recently on the right and is building a strong partnership with Mbeumo, while Mason Mount and Cunha are both battling well for the spot on the left-hand side.

Matthijs de Ligt has been outstanding defensively, while Luke Shaw has also been more impressive than many expected him to be in the backline. Casemiro has stood out in the middle.

Bruno Fernandes has been used to carrying United in recent years but the win over Brighton was the first time United had scored four goals in a Premier League game since his debut without the Portuguese midfielder registering a goal contribution, even if the fourth was scored following his genius dummy.

It seems like United are starting to have players producing from all over the pitch and that is something that we’ve all been waiting to see for a while.
