Alan Shearer now believes that he was justified in criticising one Manchester United man due to the ‘remarkable’ start under Michael Carrick.
Manchester United are currently in a good place under Michael Carrick after winning their last three games against Manchester City, Arsenal and Fulham.
The Reds are now firmly in the race for the top four and have the advantage of only playing once a week due to their lack of European football.
It looks like the team are benefiting from the change in management. There was often criticism surrounding the squad’s suitability to Ruben Amorim’s demands.
But now it seems like everyone is on the same page and Carrick is getting the best out of some of United’s most important players.
Shearer believes he was ‘justified’ in criticising Man Utd man
Alan Shearer was one of many pundits who criticised Amorim during his time at Old Trafford and the ex-Newcastle forward believes that he is now ‘justified’ in that due to the excellent work Carrick is doing.
“What a job Michael Carrick is doing. The turnaround from every single player is chalk and cheese,” Shearer told Betfair.
“I guess it was us questioning Ruben Amorim every single week and we were justified to do that because what we saw with him compared to with Michael Carrick is remarkable.
“Michael deserves great credit. He has everyone working. There’s a real understanding of what he wants. He has them really well set up and has managed three unbelievable games so far.
“They’ve got a chance of winning the fourth and fifth. They’ve put themselves in with a shout of a Champions League place, there’s no doubt.
“It’s a different Man United now to what it was a couple of months ago.”
Carrick doing the simple things right
Carrick’s good start at United should not be put down to him doing simple things, because there have been several smart changes to help the team.
But it is undeniable that he is making the ‘easy’ choices. Playing Bruno Fernandes in the no.10, putting Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw as fullbacks, pairing Casemiro with Kobbie Mainoo.

It isn’t always easy for someone to make the easy choices though, as shown by Amorim’s stint at the club. Carrick was calm and calculated as a player and he seems like the same as a head coach.
He will be hoping to continue the positive mood going forwards and put himself in a position where he could be a genuine contender for the permanent role.
