The agent of Manchester United’s young defender Diego Leon has been speaking about whether the teenager could leave on loan in the January transfer window.
Diego Leon joined Manchester United in the summer transfer window from Paraguayan side Cerro Porteño an initial fee of around £3.2 million.
After agreeing to a deal earlier in the year, Leon was finally able to join the club in the summer after he had turned 18.
The youngster spent time with Ruben Amorim’s first-team squad in pre-season and impressed during his early weeks at Carrington.
While he continues to train with the first-team regularly, Leon has been more involved with the club’s youth sides this season, where he has made six appearances.
Agent of United star makes transfer admission
Even though United are losing two wingback options for AFCON in the coming weeks – Amad and Noussair Mazraoui – there isn’t much talk about Leon getting an opportunity.
Many believe that the left-footed defender would benefit from some time on loan for the remainder of the season and United are said to be considering that possibility.
Leon’s agent, Renato Bittar, has spoken to the media about Leon’s future and links with a move to fellow INEOS-ran club OGC Nice.
“They did a ‘One with arrow’, about his move to Nice, the truth is that he is living exactly what we planned,” Bittar said.
“We are not clear if he will go out on loan now, it wouldn’t be good to cut his season short. He is evolving, adding minutes in the Under-21 and that is positive.”
Was Amass loan the right decision?
It was probably the correct decision to keep Leon at United after he signed in the summer so that he could get used to his new environment before heading straight back on loan.
But his lack of involvement in the first-team does bring into question the decision to send Harry Amass on loan in the summer to Sheffield Wednesday.

While Amass is getting good experience in the Championship, an argument could be made that he was ready to contribute at Old Trafford, especially given the poor quality shown at left wingback so far this term.
It seems unlikely that he is recalled in the January window though, even if Leon heads out on loan as well, as he is playing 90 minutes every week for The Owls and considered one of their best players.
