A Manchester United star has revealed his feelings upon joining the Premier League team last summer, and how he has to ‘adapt’.
Manchester United had a busy summer transfer window, securing the signings of four key first-team players, including Senne Lammens, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo.
Ruben Amorim has been carefully constructing his perfect squad to play in an unorthodox 3-4-3 tactical system, signing players with experience in these roles.
These players include some young talents who have the chance to break into the first team. Such as, Chido-Obi and Ayden Heaven, former Arsenal academy starlets.
One of the players signed this summer has spoken about his move to Manchester and how his transfer has given him the opportunity to represent his national team.
‘God had different plans for me’ – Leon
Paraguayan academy player Diego Leon has revealed in an interview how he was ‘afraid’ about arriving in England, having only ever played football in Paraguay, SportWitness reports.
“When they told me about coming to England, I was afraid. The language and other things, but luckily, I’ve adapted now,” Leon said.
Leon has only played for one other professional club in his career, Paraguayan team Cerro Porteno, and has had to adapt to English football.
“I only wanted to play for the Cerro’s reserves, but God had better plans for me.” Leon revealed. His love for his boyhood club is admirable, and loyalty is a trait Amorim will favour.
Leon is yet to make a senior appearance for the Reds, but will be hopeful to break into the first team in the near future.
Leon called up for Paraguay
After his dream move to United last summer, Leon caught the attention of Paraguay head coach Gutsavo Alfaro, and was called up for the national team for their round of friendlies.
I was so happy to be called up to the national team. It’s hard to grasp everything that’s happened to me in these two years.” Leon added.
The 18-year-old came off the bench for the final nine minutes in their matchup with Japan last week, replacing senior figure Junior Alonso.
Leon will hope to translate his senior presence for the national team into features for the United first-team soon.
