Former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has handed Manchester United a huge boost with his honest thoughts on Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS.

Nearly ten months have passed since British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquired a 27.7% stake in Manchester United, joining Joel Glazer and his siblings as co-owners.

Since the announcement in late December, the club has undergone significant changes at nearly every level, driven by the INEOS-led leadership team, resulting in new faces above Erik ten Hag.

Key appointments have included Omar Berrada as CEO and Dan Ashworth as sporting director, while Sir Dave Brailsford, Jean-Claude Blanc, Jason Wilcox, and others have taken up senior positions on the club’s board.

The changes have also affected the staff, with around 250 jobs expected to be cut as part of Ratcliffe’s cost-saving measures. Notably, Sir Alex Ferguson, the club’s legendary former manager and ambassador, has had his £2 million-a-year contract cancelled.

On the pitch, Manchester United have seen a mix of new arrivals and departures. Five major signings, including Matthijs de Ligt and Manuel Ugarte, have bolstered the squad, alongside a wave of young Academy talent.

At the same time, the club parted ways with 14 first-team players through sales, loans, or contract releases, generating over £100 million in transfer fees.

Ramsey’s honest opinion

The number of changes in such a short time proves that INEOS are looking to act fast to fix long-term issues at the club.

Former Premier League midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who has dealt with INEOS personally while playing for OGC Nice for the 2022/23 campaign, has expressed his honest thoughts on Ratcliffe’s United investment.

“They wanted to invest a lot into Nice and make that a hub in European football. Sir Jim, being a Man United fan and him then having the chance to own them, I think they’ll do an unbelievable job there. It’s just going to take a little bit of time,” he told Sky Sports.

“They’re very driven people and they’re only used to being the best at what they do. It’s never easy in the Premier League to go and just challenge and compete again, but with their ambition and their ideas, I think they’ll have a successful spell there.”

An attractive project

Speaking with L’Equipe in 2022, Ramsey once explained that INEOS’s presentation of their projects is very attractive—something Leny Yoro can agree with after snubbing Real Madrid for Old Trafford in the summer.

“I was seduced by the INEOS project. To me, everything was brilliant, from the vision of the club to the way they wanted to develop.

“I still wanted to play at a top level, to prove to myself that I could do it, and this was the perfect place to show it. It was a great opportunity, and the project is exciting.

“Obviously, you want to be in the best shape for the national team, but Nice is perfect for me. With the vision of INEOS, their experience in all sports, it’s only a matter of time for Nice to fight to play in the Champions League. It’s very exciting.”
