“A normal guy…” Man Utd’s Senne Lammens tells all on his mindset as well as revealing his ‘biggest idol’

Manchester United’s new shot-stopper, Senne Lammens, has revealed all regarding his mindset and beliefs, as well as stating who his biggest idol was when growing up.

During the summer transfer window, Manchester United set their sights towards their struggling attacking department in a bid to end last season’s goal-scoring woes.

This has since been successful, with the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Šeško both thriving under the new management of Michael Carrick in recent weeks.

Aside from spending around £200million on their new-look front three, the Reds also acquired Senne Lammens for between the sticks, who has quietly gone about his business to provide some necessary calm to the United backline.

Following a very impressive display against Everton during United’s 1-0 Premier League victory, the Belgian received his flowers, and has spoken about his mindset, beliefs and his idols growing up.

Lammens on being a ‘normal guy’

When speaking at the World Book Day, on behalf of United’s foundation, Lammens said, via BBC Sport, “I try to show the world I’m just a normal guy, show these children that everyone can make it.

“There are people who have a mindset and lifestyle that’s a little different to me. There’s nothing wrong with that. But also, it probably makes the children feel it is more difficult to get there.

“It’s one of my best feelings when you get into those classes and see the children cheering for you with open eyes and they don’t believe it. It’s not that long ago I was there. I can still remember those times.

“I don’t only want to be looked at as a football player, but also just a normal person with his own beliefs. I hope that doesn’t change.”

Lammens idolises Neuer

When talking about what it takes to be a goalkeeper, the 23-year-old said, “The first thing you have to do as a goalkeeper is make saves, but I take a lot of pride in doing the other things well.

“Maybe it’s not always the box-office stuff, but if you know a little bit about goalkeeping, that’s as important for your team-mates to trust you and help out the team.”

Regarding his role model as a shot-stopper, Lammens looked towards Munich. “My biggest idol was probably Manuel Neuer,” he said.

“I take pride in being an all-round goalkeeper. That’s why I was such a big fan of his. He didn’t really have something that was clearly not the best thing in his game.”

Clearly, Lammens takes plenty of pride in being a well-rounded goalkeeper, and although it is still very early days, he seems to have benefited the Red Devils massively.
