Paul Parker previously launched extreme criticism towards one of Manchester United’s current stars but has completed a dramatic U-turn and praised the player.
Manchester United’s Premier League season has been a stop-start affair so far, mirroring the inconsistency seen across the division, but they remain just six points behind second-placed Manchester City.
Ruben Amorim’s men have delivered some impressive results, such as wins over Liverpool and Crystal Palace, yet have also dropped points in games they were expected to manage, including a frustrating home draw against a 10-man Everton.
Several players have stood out for United. Bruno Fernandes has once again been influential, most recently scoring and providing two assists against Wolves.
Bryan Mbeumo has also caught the eye as the club’s leading scorer with seven goals, while Matthijs de Ligt and Mason Mount have earned plaudits for their performances.
Parker completes dramatic U-turn on United favourite
Mount has scored three goals in his last four starts for United and is starting to look as sharp as he did when he was thriving at Chelsea.
The midfielder has struggled at Old Trafford with injuries and ex-United defender Paul Parker called him “one of the worst signings ever” for the club.
Yet, now that he is finally getting a run of fitness, Mount is proving his worth at United under Amorim and Parker has now praised the midfielder and stated that his ‘desire, attitude and drive’ are on show.
“Mason Mount has had a difficult time at United, but he’s looked a lot better now and stayed fitter for longer,” he told Gambling Portal. “I think injuries in the squad to the likes of Matheus Cunha have actually worked in his favour to get him some more game-time on the pitch to show what he’s made of.
“Mount has a bit more to him than the rest of the team at the moment – he’s got that desire to prove himself at the club and do well there after quite a slow start to his career. That attitude and drive is what served him so well at Chelsea, so I’m hoping to see more of the same from him.”
Mount is looking sharp
Mount has produced good performances for United previously but he did not have the sharpness in the final third to make a big difference.
He can move the ball quickly, find good positions and work hard defensively, but that is still not enough to start regularly at United.
Adding goals to his game was crucial and Mount’s recent form suggests that he can bring that to the table. His run and finish against Wolves looked like a player who was full of confidence.
Mount will be hoping to start against Bournemouth on Monday night and continue his fine form to help his team secure a win.
