55 touches, 23 passes – “Brilliant” Manchester United star has quickly become must-starter despite Brighton mistake

One Manchester United star has quickly proven that he should be a must-starter in Ruben Amorim’s team even though he made a mistake against Brighton.

Manchester United stretched their winning streak to three matches with a lively 4–2 triumph over Brighton in the Premier League at Old Trafford.

Fresh off an impressive victory against Liverpool at Anfield, United returned home brimming with confidence, and it was evident from the start.

Matheus Cunha broke the deadlock midway through the first half, calmly slotting home his first goal for the club since joining in the summer. Casemiro soon doubled the advantage when his strike took a deflection, leaving Bart Verbruggen helpless.

After the break, Bryan Mbeumo finished off a flowing team move to make it 3–0, but former United forward Danny Welbeck reduced the deficit with a well-taken free-kick.

Brighton added another late on to create a nervy finale, only for Mbeumo to strike again in stoppage time and seal all three points for Ruben Amorim’s side.

Lammens has become must-starter for United

Senne Lammens started his third game for the club, and it does not seem like a coincidence that it was yet another win for the Reds.

The goalkeeper, who had 55 touches and completed 23 passes, produced another solid display between the sticks, with fans lauding his “brilliant” performance.

Football changes quickly. A few weeks ago, there were doubts over the Belgian goalkeeper’s ability to come into the team and make the position his own. Now, he has the full support of Amorim, his teammates and the fanbase.

Altay Bayındır was the first-choice when the season begun but Lammens has clearly overtaken him and is almost a must-starter for Amorim going forward.

Lammens reaction after Brighton mistake was perfect

This game did see Lammens make his first mistake between the sticks for United. Even though Danny Welbeck’s free-kick was impressive, it probably should have been saved by the goalkeeper.

We all knew a moment like that would come for Lammens but it is his reaction afterwards which was perfect.

André Onana went through positive spells of form in goal beforehand but would crumble when one mistake came. Lammens stayed strong after the free-kick and helped United get over the line.

No one is expecting the young goalkeeper to not make any mistakes, but to show that kind of reaction when they do come, and Lammens is passing these tests.
