One Manchester United star took his chance in the latest victory over Ipswich Town and impressed Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United secured a 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town in their Premier League clash at Old Trafford, despite being reduced to 10 men in the first-half.

Ruben Amorim’s side fell behind early in the match after a costly mix-up between André Onana and Patrick Dorgu led to a disastrous goal.

Bruno Fernandes then orchestrated United’s comeback with two pinpoint set-pieces—one forcing an own goal from Sam Morsy and the other converted by Matthijs de Ligt.

Shortly after, Dorgu lunged into a challenge on Omari Hutchinson, prompting VAR to advise referee Darren England to review the incident. The outcome was inevitable, and Dorgu was shown a red card.

United then conceded an equaliser just before half-time, but Harry Maguire rose to the occasion early in the second half, heading in the decisive goal to restore United’s lead and seal the victory.

Yoro takes chance for United vs Ipswich

Noussair Mazraoui was forced out of the team due to injury in this game and that gave Leny Yoro the opportunity to return to the starting XI for the first time since his illness.

Many fans have been calling for the French defender to move into the left-sided defensive role, which has been an issue for Amorim since Lisandro Martínez’s injury.

That is exactly what happened on Wednesday evening and Yoro did not disappoint – he was one of United’s best players and even improved his performance when United went down to 10 men.

The 19-year-old made six clearances and won five duels in the game. The defender was proactive and energetic in his defending style which is something that United’s other options do not have – one account claimed that Yoro is “a different calibre” compared to them.

He also completed 53 passes on the night, misplacing just three, which showcases his calmness in possession despite United being a man down for most of the game.

Yoro is comfortable doing what United need

One of the most important attributes Yoro brings to the table is his ability to step ahead of the defensive line, either in or out of possession.

Amorim’s back-three formation gives the protection for the wide centre-back on the side of possession to step ahead, whether that be to support an attack or jump in to pressure an opposition player.

If your wide centre-backs cannot do that, then it limits the strengths of the formation. Martínez was making the most of that freedom but has been ruled out for the rest of the season with injury.

Yoro seems to be the only available option on that left side who is comfortable doing that role and it makes a clear difference.

After taking his chance against Ipswich, Yoro has now made a strong case for him to be the favoured option on that left side for the remainder of the season.
