23 touches, 3 misplaced passes – Manchester United man set for summer exit after “horrible” display vs West Ham

One Manchester United player looks set for a summer exit following a “horrible” Premier League display against West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United have fallen to 16th in the Premier League table after a frustrating 2-0 defeat to West Ham at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The match began with Rúben Amorim’s men enjoying much of the ball, but Tomáš Souček opened the scoring against the run of play, putting the visitors ahead after 25 minutes with a clinical finish.

Despite a push to level things before the break, United couldn’t find the breakthrough and went into half-time trailing by a goal.

After the restart, West Ham looked dangerous on the counter and nearly doubled their lead through James Ward-Prowse, only to be denied by Altay Bayındır. However, just before the hour mark, Jarrod Bowen tapped home to make it 2-0.

United pushed forward in search of a way back into the game, with good chances falling to Harry Maguire and Rasmus Højlund, but Amorim’s men were left to rue missed opportunities in a disheartening home loss.

Bayındır puts in “horrible” display vs West Ham

With Amorim looking to rest some of his essential players ahead of the Europa League final in ten days’ time, Altay Bayındır was handed a second Premier League start in a row and a third of his career against West Ham.

Prior to the Hammers tie, Bayındır had conceded four goals in each of his last two appearances, and on Sunday afternoon, he did not do much in the way of instilling confidence in his abilities with United fans.

With the Turkish player’s future already in doubt, Bayındır was far from impressive at Old Trafford, with the player completely glued to his line for both of West Ham’s goals on the afternoon.

With United reportedly already offering the goalkeeper out for a transfer this summer, the shaky shot-stopper made two saves, misplaced three of his 18 attempted passes, completed 50% of his six attempted long balls and had 23 touches.

Although it was a slight improvement on the performances against Newcastle and Brentford, it was far from a convincing enough display to show anything but the need for a sale this summer.

Bayındır set for exit this summer

While Onana’s future is up in the air this summer, this should not stop United from axing Bayındır once the window opens.

There are rumours that third-choice goalie Tom Heaton will be handed a one-year contract extension to keep him at the club as a leader and figurehead behind the scenes and in training.

With exciting young shot-stoppers such as Elyh Harrison waiting in the wings, there is little need for Bayındır as a second-choice behind Onana at the club.

At 27 years old, Bayındır is undoubtedly a player looking to establish himself as a first-choice goalkeeper in a top European team. Still, following his woeful performances of late, there is no chance this will come at United under Amorim.

Bayındır is not a poor goalkeeper by any stretch – his fantastic FA Cup display against Arsenal in January proves this – but as far as being a Premier League starter goes, his chances are moot. United must look to move him on as soon as they can.
