11/15 duels won, 2 crosses – Rúben Amorim has just recreated his secret weapon with Man Utd star’s “immense” display vs Wolves

Rúben Amorim has just recreated his secret weapon despite Manchester United’s 1-0 loss against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United suffered their 15th Premier League defeat of the season as Rúben Amorim’s side was beaten by Wolverhampton Wanderers in a lacklustre match at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The game began with Wolves attempting to assert themselves away from home, but the first 25 minutes were uneventful, with neither team registering a shot on target.

As United grew into the match, the game became slightly more exciting, but neither side could find a breakthrough before the half-time whistle, following a speculative shot from Kobbie Mainoo that narrowly missed the target.

The first significant opportunity of the second half fell to Rasmus Højlund, who found himself through on goal, but his indecision in the final moments saw his effort blocked. Wolves finally broke the deadlock 15 minutes from time with Pablo Sarabia’s brilliant free-kick that beat André Onana.

Despite United’s attempts to mount a late attack on Wolves’ goal, they were unable to find an equaliser, leaving Amorim’s men to leave Old Trafford with another disappointing defeat.

Dorgu’s “immense” display at right wing-back

Patrick Chinazaekpere Dorgu lined up at right wing-back against Wolves on Sunday afternoon, on the opposite flank to his usual position as Diogo Dalot was afforded his first rest in 30 United fixtures.

The Danish international surprised fans with what was an “immense” display at Old Trafford, with the 20-year-old showing off some exceptional creative skills with venomous inswinging crosses into the area with his left foot.

In his 59 minutes, Dorgu provided two brilliant crosses, while supplying two passes into the final third and having 31 touches of the ball.

As a defender, he was very good, too. He completed six of seven tackles, the most of any player on the field at the time of his substitution, and also won 11 of his 15 attempted duels.

He also made two clearances, one recovery, and won three fouls, which is a very impressive return for a player who was pushing so high up the field.

Amorim is recreating a secret weapon

Dorgu’s performance as the right wing-back on Sunday afternoon was very reminiscent of a secret weapon Amorim utilised during his time at Sporting before his move to United.

During his final season at the Portuguese club, Amorim often favoured using a 17-year-old on the right flank, despite the player being left-footed, and it was a decision that left many clubs, such as Manchester City, in his wake.

With Dorgu showing a very similar profile to Quenda, Amorim made sure that Dorgu was right up with the back line of Wolves, with wing-backs pushing high being a trademark of his Sporting side, and Quenda an absolute highlight of this.

With Dorgu proving against Wolves that he can recreate the unique type of threat that Quenda was able to do at Sporting for Amorim, the head coach may have just recreated his secret Sporting weapon at Old Trafford.
