102 touches, 77 passes – Ruben Amorim has finally fixed his biggest mistake at Manchester United after FCSB win

Manchester United secured a comfortable 2-0 victory against FCSB in their final Europa League league phase fixture and have progressed to the round-of-16.

Ruben Amorim’s side were dominant across the 90 minutes and the team won their third consecutive game for the first time this season.

The Reds had most of the possession in the first half and created a handful of chances but were unable to find the opener before the interval.

Alejandro Garnacho and Amad were introduced at the break to inject some urgency and pace in the final third and they immediately had an impact.

Garnacho hit the post within minutes of coming on and then Amad played a part in the opening goal on 60 minutes.

The Ivorian took a quick throw-in to Christian Eriksen, who played into Kobbie Mainoo. The midfielder crossed low for Diogo Dalot to tap in at the far post.

Soon afterwards, Mainoo was on the end of Garnacho’s cross and produced a calm finish into the corner to top off a strong performance playing in a more advanced position.

United continued to control the game and played some good football. Keeping a clean sheet was also encouraging.

Mazraoui excels at RCB for United vs FCSB

One of the most promising performances of the evening came from Noussair Mazraoui, who was finally reinstated to the right centre-back position.

Mazraoui played the opening six games under Amorim in that role and thrived but was moved forward into the wingback position afterwards and his form has since dipped.

It seemed to be one of Amorim’s biggest mistakes as the Reds’ build-up worsened in most of those games but that was a completely different story on Thursday night.

Despite the level of opposition, Mazraoui was extremely positive in possession and helped the team keep pressure on the opposition.

He played 90 minutes in the game and had some impressive statistics. The 27-year-old made 102 touches, played 77 passes, won all four of his attempted tackles and won nine duels.

Amorim has been reminded how useful Mazraoui can be in that position and will undoubtably be looking to reinstate him there for Premier League games.

The potential signing of Patrick Dorgu will also help, with there being an extra player to play at wingback for the team.
