Wayne Rooney has shared his desire to see Marcus Rashford back at United following the end of his loan spell at Aston Villa.
During the January Window, Marcus Rashford along with Antony went out to Aston Villa and Real Betis for their loan spell after the pair was seen struggling under Amorim’s system.
Following his arrival at Aston Villa, Rashford has regained his form. Under Unai Emery’s system, in 15 appearances, he has scored 3 goals and bagged 5 assists.
Aston Villa went out of the Champions League even after putting up an amazing performance in the Villa Park. Rashford’s performance in both ties was especially impressive.
Former United forward Wayne Rooney didn’t shy away from showering the Englishman with praise. Moreover, he shared his desire to see him back in United.
What Rooney said about Rashford
After a 3-1 defeat in Paris, Emery’s team put out a brave performance that almost saw his team make it to the next round. However, the Parisians were able to punch their ticket after travelling to Villa Park on Tuesday.
Marcus Rashford was one of the biggest names among the players who have performed tremendously for Unai Emery. Following the match, Wayne Rooney shared his desire to see the Englishman back at United, claiming that the winger himself wants to return to Amorim’s side.
“I hope Rashford goes back to Manchester United and performs like he did tonight. That’s what we all want to see as Manchester United fans,” the United legend said on Amazon Prime.
Over a few seasons, the Englishman had struggled to regain his form at the club. However, it seemed like his arrival at Villa gave the fans a much-needed hope.
Rooney said, “Marcus Rashford wants to play for Manchester United, 100 per cent. He’s a Manchester lad, a Manchester United fan. He needed to play and it was clear he wasn’t going to play for the rest of the season.
“Sometimes, you have to put the manager in a position where he cannot leave you out. Marcus Rashford, in an ideal world, would want to play and leave a legacy at Manchester United. Whether that’s possible, I don’t know, but that’s what I’d love to see.”
What’s next for Rashford and Villa?
While the Englishman surely appreciates the words from one of the Man United legends, his focus is on Villa’s next fixture.
Unai Emery’s team hosts the Carabao Cup winners Newcastle United at the Villa Park. Currently sitting at the 7th position in the table, there’s no doubt that European qualification is on top of the priority list for Emery’s team.
Villa have the option to sign Rashford permanently for a £40 million fee this summer, although Emery has been keen to stress that the Birmingham club are far from sure they will trigger this.
“It is difficult to plan it now,” Emery said when asked if Rashford will stay. “He is feeling better, and he played a fantastic match.
“We are very happy. If he is happy, we are happy. It depends on the circumstances for now and the next weeks.”
