Manchester United are struggling up front in the Premier League this season with the strikers unable to secure consistent goals.

With just 28 goals in the first 24 games of the Premier League campaign, Manchester United are facing difficulties finding the back of the net.

It is a problem that Ruben Amorim has addressed and he’s attempted to find different solutions within the squad.

Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee have both had chances and the United boss even started a game with Kobbie Mainoo as a false-nine.

But one thing the club are missing is a player who can guarantee goals regardless of their overall performances.

Guirassy shining in Champions League

In the summer window, Zirkzee was the player chosen to bolster the frontline in terms of goalscoring while someone like Serhou Guirassy was overlooked.

The Reds were heavily linked to Guirassy before his summer move to Borussia Dortmund, where he was signed for just £15 million.

After a phenomenal 2023/24 campaign with VfB Stuttgart, where he scored 30 goals in as many games, it has been no surprise to see the 28-year-old forward continue his impressive scoring rate.

Guirassy already has 19 goals and six assists so far this season, including a staggering 10 goals and three assists in their Champions League campaign.

Dortmund are set to progress to the round-of-16 after Guirassy registered a goal and assist in their first-leg playoff game against Sporting CP, which the German side won 3-0.

Guirassy shows why United made a mistake

United have instead gone with a youth-focused approach by bringing in 23-year-old Zirkzee, as well as 17-year-old Chido Obi Martin, who could make his first-team debut before the end of the season.

However, it is extremely difficult to build without reliable goalscorers in the ranks and Guirassy appeared to be a cheap option that could provide that option.

The signing of Noussair Mazraoui has helped the team, with the 26-year-old able to offer solid foundations in possession and link-up play. Guirassy would have cost a similar amount and been able to provide similar guarantees for the striker role.

Instead, he is excelling in the Champions League with Dortmund and showing United why they made a mistake. The Reds will instead be searching for another solution in the upcoming summer window.
