Manchester United have reportedly held internal discussions about handing one of their current loan crop a spot in Rúben Amorim’s first-team next season.
Manchester United’s summer transfer window saw the club make significant changes to their first-team and Academy squads, with new signings joining and several players being either sold or loaned out, to depart Old Trafford permanently next season.
Alejandro Garnacho and Antony were both sold permanently. At the same time, Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Højlund, Jadon Sancho, and André Onana left on loan and are expected to be sold next summer.
But, United also utilised the loan system very well in the summer to give some of their fringe first-team players real senior experience with the possibility of breaking through into Rúben Amorim’s squad next summer.
Harry Amass, Radek Vitek, and Toby Collyer all departed for Championship clubs to gain experience in English football, while the likes of Ethan Wheatley and Ethan Ennis also left for other lower-league English clubs.
United in talks about possible Vitek first-team chance
There has been a lot of coverage about Amass’ brilliant spell so far on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, with boss Henrik Pedersen even commenting that the 18-year-old is like a ‘different human’ from when he arrived in the summer.
However, according to CentreDevils, it’s goalkeeper Vitek that the club are monitoring very closely, and is in continuous contact with during his “ridiculous” performances in goal for Bristol City so far this season.
The report states that the club are already discussing internally whether they feel Vitek could compete with current first-choice goalkeeper Senne Lammens as part of Amorim’s squad.
Further, it’s noted that both those in Manchester and Bristol have been raving about the player’s professionalism, discipline, and willingness to always improve.
Vitek wants to play for United
It’s also claimed that clubs in both the Premier League and the Championship are keeping a close eye on Vitek’s situation and would be ready to submit offers if United were to sell. Still, the player himself has expressed a desire to stay with and succeed at United.
“I’m taking it step-by-step; we’ll see next summer what’s best for me,” Vitek told the media last week when asked whether he is thinking about his inevitable return to Old Trafford next summer.
“I speak on a regular basis with my goalkeeper coach from Manchester United, who has come here to watch my games, and I have a good connection with them.
“I know they’re watching me, and I really appreciate that I’m not just the guy who is being forgotten or anything.
“Obviously, long term, I would love to play for Manchester United one day, but also I’m realistic and I know that my pathway can lead somewhere different as well.”
