Man United loanee Amad receives praise from Giovanni van Bronckhorst after Rangers cameo

Giovanni van Bronckhorst praised Manchester United loanee Amad after he helped Rangers from the bench in their 2-0 win against Dundee United on Sunday afternoon.

The 19-year-old winger has had a difficult time since he moved to Scotland on loan in January. Despite scoring in his first appearance against Ross County, Amad struggled in the Old Firm just three days later where he was brought off at half-time.

Since then, he has played just eight matches for Bronckhorst’s side, with just two of them being starts for the young Ivorian. It has been a difficult loan spell in the Scottish Premiership for Amad, but it has also gifted him with worthwhile experiences.

Rangers have reached the final of the Scottish FA Cup, as well as the Europa League, where they have the chance to win their first ever piece of European silverware. They have all but lost out on the league title to rivals Celtic, but there would’ve been tons of lessons for Amad in his first season of regular first-team involvement.

He could well have some involvement in the tail-end of the campaign for Rangers too, with his impressive stint on the weekend, where he scored from the bench, impressing his manager.

“Today we could give a lot of players the chance to make minutes. I think Amad is a player who benefits from that. He will get minutes in the last games,” Van Bronckhorst said.

“You could see what he brings to the team. I’m really happy with his performance and with his behaviour overall. What happens next season, we haven’t discussed his future.

“Once the decision has to be made about what the squad will look like next year, we will also make a decision about who we want to bring on board.”

It still remains unlikely that Amad stays at the Ibrox Stadium, with larger involvement being key if he’s to go back on loan next season, but he could play a role in providing trophies for the club before he leaves at the end of the season.

With Erik ten Hag coming to United next season, the teenager could look to prove his worth at Old Trafford, rather than moving back out on loan. The Ajax manager is known for utilising young talent, and United fans have seen that Amad has talent in abundance.
