Manchester United vs Brentford: Team News

The final home encounter of Manchester United‘s disastrous Premier League season will be held on Monday night, with Brentford the visitors to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are now in the sixth position, five points below fourth-placed Arsenal, who have two games in hand, whereas Brentford is in 12th place after a successful season in the Premier League.

Ralf Rangnick spoke to the press after the 1-1 draw against Chelsea talking about potential returns of a few absentees.

In the Chelsea game, the Red Devils were without Jadon Sancho who was out due to an illness, while Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, Paul Pogba, Fred & Edinson Cavani missed out due to injuries.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who had been a concern, was also left out of the team, as was Jesse Lingard.

Despite such absences, Rangnick feels that a lot of those players could return on Monday, giving the Reds a boost.

Right now, I don’t know but I hope Fred will make it for the Brentford game.Tonight [against Chelsea], was too early for him,” our interim manager said of Fred, who has missed the side’s last four matches with an injury sustained in the trip to Everton earlier this month.

As it seems, Jadon might be out for the rest of the season with his tonsillitis, so he will most likely be unavailable against Brentford.

Edinson Cavani is supposed to come back to training tomorrow [Friday] but then again, the question is he has been missing for the last four or five weeks, quite a long time, is he really a player who could then play against Brentford? Probably not to start with but at least from the bench.

Apart from that, we have to wait and see. Harry Maguire [also missed the game against Chelsea], Jesse was missing for personal, family reasons today. I hope that some of those players will be back on Monday.

The squad to face Brentford has since been confirmed, with one suprise being the absence of Anthony Elanga:

De Gea, Heaton, Henderson;

Fernandez, Telles, Bailly, Jones, Varane, Dalot, Lindelof;

Lingard, Matic, Fred, McTominay, Mata, Fernandes;

Ronaldo, Rashford, Garnacho, Cavani.

Thomas Frank, the visiting head coach, gave the current team update at his news conference before the game at Old Trafford.

Christian Norgaard and Kristoffer Ajer, who have been out recently, should be able to play on Monday, according to the Dane, although Ethan Pinnock will be unavailable.

Sergi Canos, Frank Onyeka, and Saman Ghoddos are in the same boat. The latter is suffering from a twisted ankle.
