Confirmed Match Officials: Arsenal vs Manchester United

Craig Pawson has been confirmed by the Premier League as the Match Referee for Manchester United’s trip to The Emirates to face Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.

The Red Devils were embarrassed against their arch-rivals Liverpool on Tuesday evening. In the wake of the result, Ralf Rangnick has said that “it doesn’t make sense” to speculate about finishing in the top four now, and instead they should be focused on showing a much-improved performance this weekend.

United have not won away at Arsenal in the league since December 2017, so will be desperate to complete the double over The Gunners.

Last time out, a bizarre situation occurred when Emile Smith-Rowe scored into an open net, with David de Gea injured on the floor after colliding with his own teammate Fred.

Despite the goalkeeper being out of play on the floor, Martin Atkinson continued play on the pitch and the decision stood after consultation from those at Stockley Park on VAR.

United will be hoping to not have to deal with another situation like that, but they do have Cristiano Ronaldo returning to the fold, the Portuguese scored two of United’s three goals in the thrilling win at Old Trafford earlier this term.

Here are the confirmed Match Officials for this encounter.

Match Referee

Craig Pawson will be leading the latest encounter between these two Premier League giants. It will be his 23rd fixture in the competition this season and his 32nd time taking charge of a game including The Reds.

His last time in charge of a United match was back in December where Rangnick’s side drew 1-1 with Newcastle.

Assistant Referees

Eddie Smart and Dan Robathan will be flanking the 43-year-old in North London. The pair have assisted 313 Premier League fixtures between them.

Video Assistant Referees (VAR)

At Stockley Park, Jarred Gillet will be the video assistant referee for this encounter. He will be assisted by Sian Massey-Ellis.

Fourth Official

David Coote will be the fourth official alongside Rangnick and Mikel Arteta on the touchline.

The Englishman has been in the position alongside all three United managers this season — Ole Gunnar Solskjær, Michael Carrick and the current man in charge, Rangnick.

It won’t be much longer before new manager Erik ten Hag is manning the touchline for Manchester United after his official announcement was made yesterday.
