Player Ratings: Liverpool 4-0 Manchester United

Manchester United came into the game with renewed hopes for a top 4 finish after their 3-2 win against Norwich City and defeats for Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur respectively. Meanwhile, the hosts Liverpool looked for a win in order to overtake Manchester City in the title race. Ultimately, the gulf in class was clear to see and the hosts got a much deserved win.

David de Gea – 5/10

Could have probably done better to stop Mane’s goal. Distribution has been very poor. Had a little beef with Alexander-Arnold after Liverpool opened the scoring, probably the only time a United player showed some bravery tonight.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 4/10

Did not have much to do since Liverpool are targeting Dalot more. Inefficient going forward. Passing and dribbling still below par. Surprisingly improved in the second half in his unusual position on the left.

Harry Maguire – 3/10

“I wouldn’t be playing every game for #mufc in the starting eleven if I’d been playing bad every game or not playing well enough. There’s a reason why both managers have put me in the starting eleven every game.” said Maguire before today’s game. The captain did not live up to his words today.

Victor Lindelof – 4/10

Played a great ball to play Rashford clear on goal but unfortunately it was not converted. Casual pass led to Liverpool’s third goal.

Phil Jones – 4/10

Played Liverpool onside fot their first goal. Clearly lacking match fitness. Subbed off at half-time.

Diogo Dalot – 4/10

Lost track of Salah twice which led to two Liverpool goals. His side was clearly being targeted by Liverpool players so he switched back to his natural position in the second half. Made one good clearance.

Nemanja Matic – 5/10

In a game where the team were being made to chase the ball around, Matic was the one with some type of calmness and composure on the ball. However, it was clear to see that he was no longer able to compete physically with Liverpool’s energetic midfielders.

Paul Pogba – N/A

Subbed off with an injury less than 10 minutes into what could possibly be his last ever game at Anfield for United.

Bruno Fernandes – 6/10

There was really nothing he could do with so little possession and movement in front of him. Made a few passes from deep. Kicked the ball at Liverpool fans then had a little beef with Henderson. Extra point for putting up a bit of a fight.

Anthony Elanga – 6/10

Compared to the rest of the team, Elanga showed incisiveness with his passing and dribbling. Played some good combinations before Liverpool scored their third.

Marcus Rashford – 2/10

It is very hard to explain what is happening with Rashford this season. Had numerous chances to score yet he was very loose with his touch today.

Jesse Lingard – 5/10

Came on for Pogba early on. Did not have the ball much in the first half but improved in the second.

Jadon Sancho – 7/10

The one bright spark for United in this game. Looked promising every time he was on the ball. Managed to get United’s first and final shot on target of the game.

Hannibal Mejbri – 6/10

Very unlucky to be on the receiving end of a poor pass that led to Liverpool’s fourth goal. It must be hard for an 19-year-old to be thrown into this situation yet he showed more heart than most of his senior teammates.
