Liverpool vs Manchester United: The Ones to Watch

Manchester United head to Anfield on Tuesday night to face Liverpool in the Premier League.

It is one of the biggest games in the season’s calendar and has heighten importance for both teams as United try to keep their slim hopes of a top four finish alive. Whereas Liverpool, who are one point behind Manchester City, are hoping to win their 2nd Premier League title.

Liverpool will be going into the game full of confidence as they were triumphant in a 3-2 win against City in the FA Cup semi final to keep their dreams of a history making quadruple alive.

Although Manchester United were also victorious by a 3-2 score line at the weekend they could be considered to be lucky to come away with all three points against 20th place Norwich City as United were all over the place throughout the match.

Here’s some players to look out for in Tuesday’s game.

With the devastating news for Cristiano Ronaldo and his family revealed last night and the club since confirming that he will not feature against Liverpool, United might be looking towards Anthony Elanga to spearhead the attack.

The young Swede picked up an assist in the Norwich City game and recreated the iconic ‘SIUUU’ celebration with Ronaldo who he provided the pass for the Portuguese first goal of the match.

Elanga should have lots of attacking space to run into on the wings due to the offensive nature of Liverpool’s fullbacks, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson. This could create vital outer-attacking opportunities for United.

It will be vital for David de Gea to be at his best for Manchester United to entertain the idea of getting anything from the game as Liverpool’s flexible front three are set to unleash a barrage of shots at his goal.

The Spaniard was pivotal in the win on Saturday as he made big saves from Teemu Pukki early in the game and a strong hand stopped Milot Rashica from completing the Norwich comeback moments before Ronaldo’s winner.

Any of Liverpool’s front three chosen by Jürgen Klopp are worth your time keeping a close eye on but I’ve picked Sadio Mané.

The Senegalese winger was given the Man of the Match for the semi final clash against City scoring two of Liverpool’s three goals.

Mané showed his desire for his first goal, by chasing down and tackling Zack Steffen a goal which the American keeper will wish to forget. His second goal showed his class as he cut across the ball and volleyed it into the bottom corner while just being inside the box.

United’s shaky defence could easily be cut open by Mané’s sharpness potentially leading to a painful evening for Manchester United.
