Manchester United return to Premier League action as they head to Anfield to face Liverpool.

After three cup games in a row, Manchester United will travel to Anfield in an attempt to win their first game at the ground in seven years. The last time the Red Devils won at Anfield was a 1-0 victory thanks to Wanye Rooney’s strike, in January 2016.

Erik ten Hag has spoken about how excited he is to play the fixture, saying: “I’m looking forward (to it), I know the ambience, the atmosphere will be great. It will be hostile against us, and we like it.”

“It is, of course, a test,” he continued. “But we’re facing Liverpool and we’re really looking forward (to it), I know these players, my squad, my team will be prepared to go and fight, to go with confidence but we know it’s going to be difficult.

“We know we have to suffer, we have to sacrifice to get a good result.”

The match officials for the tie have been confirmed.

Match referee

Andy Madley will take charge of the fixture, with it becoming the 17th Premier League tie he has refereed this season.

He has taken charge of just one Manchester United tie this season; the 1-0 away win against Southampton, which was the first away win of Erik ten Hag’s tenure at the club.

Assistant referees

Gary Beswick and Lee Betts will be in charge of the lines for the fixture. It could be a tough round for both, as the match is sure to get heated between the two sides, and considering the type of football that both sides play, there will no doubt be some tough offside calls to be made.

Video Assistant Referee

As always in modern football, there is a huge focus on who will be in charge of VAR for the tie.

Craig Pawson, who has officiated 27 games this season, will be in the booth, with Ian Hussin as his assistant.

Fourth Official

Stuart Attwell will be in charge of the technical areas for the fixture. There is potential for a clash between both Erik ten Hag and Jurgen Klopp during play, as both managers can become very passionate on the sidelines as the stakes get high.
