Manchester United hosted Norwich City at Old Trafford after failing to win any of their last three games in all competitions. The last time United played was an abysmal 1-0 loss against Everton at the Goodison last weekend.
However, they did manage to make amends after picking up a well-fought 3-2 win against the Canaries in a must-win game that helps keep the Red Devils’ top four hopes alive.
Goalkeeper
David De Gea – 7/10
Was way more aggressive off the line, making crucial saves including one from Rashica.
Defenders
Diogo Dalot – 6/10
Made a few important interceptions and tackles at the back but was at fault for the first goal. Was ineffective going forward.
Harry Maguire – 6/10
Allowed a few runs inside of Pukki and Rashica. However, he was pretty much apart from that.
Victor Lindelof – 5/10
Was dragged out of his position quite a few times and felt pretty helpless at the back.
Alex Telles – 6/10
Was very effective from the corners, assisiting United’s second. However, could’ve done better at the back and allowed the Norwich attack to get into dangerous positions.
Midfielders
Paul Pogba – 5/10
Not a good option as a defensive midfielder and it showed in his performance tonight. Was dragged out of his positions quite a few times and lost possession in crucial areas.
Bruno Fernandes – 5/10
Very similarly to Pogba, he was also not played in his best position today. Was very sloppy and gave away possession in serious areas of the pitch.
Jesse Lingard – 6/10
Worked very hard upfront. Tried to be the perfect Rangnick-esque player. He didn’t do much wrong, but many things also didn’t seem to go his way.
Forwards
Anthony Elanga – 7/10
Had a good work rate defensively and also pressed well to gain back possession for assisting United’s first goal of the game.
Jadon Sancho – 6/10
Was able to trouble the Norwich defence quite a few times but struggled to make a major impact going forward.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 10/10
Was by far one of his best games (arguably the best) in his second stint as a United player. Scored a perfect hattrick consisting of a well-worked tap-in, a bullet header and a thunderous free kick. Was without a doubt, the best player on the pitch today.
Substitutes
Nemanja Matic – 6/10
Provided the needed defensively stability that United needed to get over the line.
Marcus Rashford – 5/10
Did not provide anything major to the game and hence gets a base rating of 5.
Juan Mata – 6/10
Was very energetic throughout the 16 minutes he played. Fought back well to gain back the possession, created a chance for himself and helped United keep the possession for the final few minutes.
