Manchester United target Erik ten Hag is likely to leave Ajax at the end of the season, with Marc Overmars’ departure from the club having a huge impact on the future of the Dutch manager, says Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian football journalist has spoken on his podcast about the importance that Overmars had on the manager, who had always been the reason behind Ten Hag remaining at the Eredivisie champions.

On Sunday, it was revealed that the the sporting director of the European giant would leave the club with immediate effect after it was found that he had sent cross-border messages towards serval female colleagues at the club.

Romano claims that this situation will have a ‘big impact on the future of Ten Hag’, who is one of two leading candidates for the Manchester United manager role next season after Ralf Rangnick moves into his advisory role, as per Paul Hirst. It is difficult to see him remaining at his current club beyond this season because of these implications, Fabrizio unveiled.

Erik ten Hag was appointed manager of Ajax in December 2017, since then, he has won two Eredivisie titles, two KNVB cups and reached a Champions League semi-final. Currently, de Godenzonen sit first in their domestic table and have progressed to the Champions League knockout rounds after a flawless group-stage performance, with six wins out of six.
