Ralf Rangnick has confirmed that Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani are back in contention for Manchester United, and will both be in the squad to face Burnley in the Premier League on Tuesday evening.
The attacking pair missed the penalty shootout loss to Middlesbrough in the FA Cup last week. Cavani had an extended holiday after international duty with Uruguay and Lingard was gifted extra time off, despite Rangnick revealing that he would’ve liked to have him in the squad post-match, after a potential deadline day move broke down for the 29-year-old.
“They’re both available and will both be part of the squad for tomorrow’s game at Burnley.” Rangnick confirmed in his press conference with media. “Both of them are top professionals, both have been training well.”
Rangnick dismissed claims that there could be friction between himself and Lingard after the midfielder was denied a move away from the club, with Mason Greenwood‘s dismissal from the Manchester United first-team being a factor in the decision.
With regards to Jesse, I have a very good relationship with him, he knows I would have been willing to let him go at least until the issue with Mason came up, he mentioned some personal issues.
“We have to look forward now, there are no problems whatsoever between myself and Jesse and vice versa. I’m very happy to have him in the squad and he’ll be in the squad for tomorrow night’s game.”
