Bordeaux closing in on signing Phil Jones before transfer window closes

Several reports have suggested that it is a matter of time before Phil Jones signs a loan deal with French club Bordeaux before the transfer window reaches it’s conclusion on Monday.

The Manchester United defender has made one appearance this season where he was lauded as United’s best player against Wolves in a disappointing loss. Lequipe revealed earlier today that Bordeaux are ‘seriously interested’ in signing the 29-year-old defender.

He is no longer in Manchester United’s plans, and with potential departures of Otávio and Josh Maja, Les Girondins have the ability to bring in defensive reinforcements.

Fabrizio Romano has just updated his followers regarding the situation, claiming that the Ligue 1 side are ‘confident’ of completing the deal before the deadline in two days. He has also stated that the only thing missing to complete the deal is a final ‘green light’ from Ralf Rangnick for the transfer.

French journalist Santi Aouna has reported that Sporting director Admar Lopes has personally convinced the English defender to join the club who are currently sitting a point above the relegation play-off position. At this moment in time, unless the situation changes, Jones will be joining Bordeaux on a six-month loan.

Marc Mechenoua has also reported that 25% of Phil Jones’ wages will be covered by Bordeaux for the duration of his loan deal at the club.

Signed from Blackburn Rovers in 2011, Phil Jones has played 225 matches for The Red Devils and has one Premier League title to his name.
